Tamizdat’s Tax Policy Advocacy Pays Off – CWA Income Requirement Temporarily Lifted
Good news! (Go figure!)
Two years ago, the IRS made a new rule, the impact of which was to hugely increase the effective tax withholding on low earning and independent foreign performing artists. After two years of advocacy by Tamizdat, The League of American Orchestras, and CWA Management, with support from the NEA, the IRS suspended the rule on January 4, 2021:
Now foreign performers do not need to make a minimum $10,000 to be eligible for a Central Withholding Agreement. They say this is a “temporary” waiver. It’s all very mysterious.
